About Lynette |
Hats came into my life about fifteen years ago. Not able to find a hat I liked for my son's wedding, I was determined to learn to make hats. It was very difficult to find a teacher back then. Eventually, Zef and Miriam Nkosi of Pennyville taught me the basics of millinery during an eight-month period in the early 1990's . I then studied for three years at the London School of Fashion. One of my teachers was the Queen's milliner and the other - a Viennese, had worked under Jean Patou in Paris. Very high standards were required and technical skills were honed. I have also taught and continue to teach tertiary level fashion students the basics of millinery. One has to have good needle-skills, considerable patience and technical know-how. One must attempt to sew like an angel with light hands and conjure up a flattering hat to enhance any face. When people say they cannot wear hats or do not look good in them, they have just not found their ideal hat yet. It is out there waiting to be found and I love helping people find it. I am passionately in love with hats! |
